SUGAR GROVE, Ill. – Virginia Tech shot a three-round total of 37-over-par 889 and tied with Ball State for fourth place at the Northern Intercollegiate at the 6,954-yard, par 71 Rich Harvest Farms golf course on Sunday afternoon.

The Hokies had to complete the second round in the morning before playing the final 18 holes. Tech shot 289, 298 and 302 in the three rounds.

Junior Mikey Moyers (Stanardsville, Va.) led the Hokies with a three-round total of even par 213. He tied with Tyler Duncan of Purdue for third place, one stroke behind Tyler Merkel of Ball State and Brad Schneider of UCF. This is Moyers’ second-best finish as a Hokie. He finished second in leading Tech to the victory at the 2010 Pinehurst Intercollegiate by Gatorade.

Freshman Scott Vincent (Harare, Zimbabwe), playing in his first collegiate event, finished in 14^th place at eight-over-par 221 and fellow freshman Trevor Cone (Concord, N.C.), also making his collegiate debut, tied for 20^th place at 224. Senior Blake Redmond (Sugar Land, Texas) tied for 68^th at 238 and sophomore Bryce Chalkley (Richmond, Va.) tied for 72^nd place at 240.

UCF won the tournament with a three-round total of 18-over-par 870, 10 strokes ahead of Tulsa. Indiana was in third place at 888, one stroke ahead of the Hokies and Cardinals. Purdue and Illinois tied for sixth at 891, host Northern Illinois was eighth at 908, Akron was ninth at 909 and Eastern Michigan was 10^th at 915. Bowling Green was 11^th at 918, East Tennessee State was 12^th at 919, Miami of Ohio was 13^th at 933, Illinois State was 14^th at 953, St. Francis of Illinois was 15^th at 956 and Toledo was 16^th at 960.

The Hokies return to action on Sept. 26-27 at the VCU Shootout at the Hermitage Country Club’s Manakin Course in Manakin-Sabot, Va.
