Hokies in third place following first round at Northern Intercollegiate
Play suspended in the second round due to darkness

SUGAR GROVE, Ill. – Virginia Tech shot a first round seven-over-par 289 and was in third place at the Northern Intercollegiate at the 6,954-yard, par 71 Rich Harvest Farms golf course on Saturday afternoon. The second round of competition was suspended due to darkness.

The start of the first round was delayed due to fog on Saturday morning and backed up play to the point that the second round could not be completed on Saturday. There were problems with the scoring system and there were not accurate accounts as to where the Hokies stood in the standings when play was suspended.

Junior Mikey Moyers (Stanardsville, Va.) and freshman Scott Vincent (Harare, Zimbabwe) were tied for ninth at the end of the first round with even-par 71s. Vincent was three-over par at the turn, but recorded three birdies on the front nine, his second nine of the morning to post his 71.

The second round will restart at 7 a.m. CT on Sunday morning. The final round will begin immediately following the completition of the second round.
