Chalkley tied for 95th after first round of U.S. Amateur

ERIN, Wisc. – Virginia Tech golfer Bryce Chalkley shot an opening round one-over-par 71 and is tied for 95th place at the 2011 U.S. Amateur Championship on Monday. Chalkley played his first round on the 6,622-yard, par 70 Blue Mound Golf and Country Club in nearby Wauwatosa, Wisc.

Chalkley’s round featured three bogeys and two birdies, both on par-fives. He is just one stroke out of 62nd place. The field of 312 will participate in 36 holes of stroke play before the top 64 players advance to six rounds of match play. The event will conclude with a 36-hole championship match.

Three golfers share the lead at five-under-par. Defending champion Peter Uihlein is one stroke off the lead.

Chalkley will tee off in his second round at 8:20 a.m. from the 10th tee of the 7,760-yard, par 72 Erin Hills Golf Club course. He is grouped with James Back of the University of San Francisco and Zahkai Brown of Colorado State.
