Hokies ninth after two rounds at Augusta State
Redmond tied for 13th individually

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Virginia Tech golf team shot a two-round total of 592 on Saturday and is in ninth place at Insperity Augusta State Invitational, at the par-72, 7,231-yard Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga. The Hokies shot a 12-over-par 300 in the morning round and rebounded with a four-over-par 292 in the afternoon’s second round.

Junior Blake Redmond (Sugar Land, Texas) is tied for 13th place with a total of even-par 144 He is 11 strokes behind leader Kevin Tway of Oklahoma State. Redmond’s one-under-par 71 in the afternoon was the Hokies’ low round of the two rounds.

Senior Garland Green (Tazewell, Virginia) and sophomore Mikey Moyers (Stanardsville, Virginia) are tied for 34th place at four-over-par 148. Senior Marshall Bailey (Fincastle, Virginia) is tied for 59th place at 152 and freshman Bryce Chalkley (Richmond, Virginia) is tied for 66th at 153.

Top-ranked Oklahoma State leads the event at 20-under-par 556, 10 strokes ahead of Tennessee. Clemson is third at 575, Alabama is fourth at 580 and host Augusta State and UCLA are tied for fifth at 582. Illinois is seventh at 583 and Coastal Carolina is eighth at 587, five strokes ahead of the Hokies. South Carolina is 10th at 587, Lamar is 11th at 599 and Georgia Southern is 12th at 602. Washington is 13th at 606, Houston is 14th at 608, Georgia State is 15th at 614 and USC Aiken is 16th at 616. On the golfstat.com scoreboard, Augusta State’s “B” team is listed as eighth, but NCAA rules allow for just one counting team per school, although the ASU “B” team’s individuals do count.

The top three teams in the nation and five of the top 10 teams are playing in the tournament this weekend. Defending national champion and ninth-ranked Augusta State is the event host. Virginia Tech, ranked 42nd in the golfstat.com rankings, is one of 10 top 50 teams in the field.
