Golf wraps up regular season at Augusta State
Top field awaits Hokies in Georgia

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Virginia Tech golf team will conclude the regular season this weekend, April 2-3, in the Insperity Augusta State Invitational, at the par-72, 7,231-yard Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga. The tournament will feature perhaps the strongest field in collegiate golf this season.

The starting line-up for the Hokies this weekend will include seniors Marshall Bailey (Fincastle, Virginia) and Garland Green (Tazewell, Virginia), along with junior Blake Redmond (Sugar Land, Texas), sophomore Mikey Moyers (Stanardsville, Virginia) and freshman Bryce Chalkey (Richmond, Virginia).

The top three teams in the nation and five of the top 10 teams will join the Hokies this weekend. The 16-team field includes tournament host, defending national champion and ninth-ranked Augusta State, No. 3 Alabama, No. 33 Clemson, Coastal Carolina, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Houston, No. 8 Illinois, Lamar, No. 1 Oklahoma State, South Carolina, No. 35 Tennessee, No. 2 UCLA, USC Aiken and No. 20 Washington. Virginia Tech, ranked 45th in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings, is one of nine top 50 teams in the field.

The weekend’s events begin with a practice round on Friday, April 1 at 12:30 p.m., with a welcome barbecue slated for 6:00 p.m., that evening at Forest Hills.

Tournament play gets underway Saturday morning beginning with an 8:30 a.m., shotgun start. Teams will play the first two rounds on Saturday, with the third and final round slated for a 9:00 a.m., start on Sunday, April 3. Live scoring will be available on hokiesports.com and golfstat.com.
