Hokies enter final round at Furman tied for the lead

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Virginia Tech golf team shot a second round, one-under-par 287 on Saturday and is tied with Kennesaw State for the lead at the 42nd Annual Furman Intercollegiate at the par-72, 6,994-yard Furman University Golf Club in Greenville, S.C. Tech and the Owls have two-day totals of 572.

Senior Garland Green (Tazewell, Virginia) shot a four-under-par 68 on Saturday and is in third place at five-under-par 139. He trails leader William Sjaichudin of Purdue by five strokes. Green’s 68 was tied for the second-best round of the day.

Senior Marshall Bailey (Fincastle, Virginia) is tied for seventh place at 141 and sophomore Mikey Moyers (Stanardsville, Virginia) is tied for 22nd at 145. Junior Blake Redmond (Sugar Land, Texas) is tied for 41st place at 148 and freshman Bryce Chalkley (Richmond, Virginia) is tied for 48th at 149. Redshirt freshman Marc MacDonald (Harare, Zimbabwe) is playing the tournament as an individual and is tied for 62nd place at 151.

Clemson is in third place, at 576, four strokes behind the Hokies and Owls. East Carolina is in fourth at 579, Purdue is fifth at 583, Gardner-Webb and host Furman are tied for sixth at 584 and Chattanooga is eighth at 589. Charleston Southern is in ninth at 593, Winthrop is 10th at 596, Wofford and Davidson are tied for 11th at 599 and Troy and Francis Marion are tied for 13th at 600. UNC Wilmington and Western Carolina are tied for 15th at 601, Marshall and Samford are tied for 17th at 602, Presbyterian is 19th at 603, Louisville is 20th at 604, Elon is 21st at 605 and Temple is in 22nd place at 614.

The second round was suspended from 3:17 p.m. until 4:45 p.m. due to heavy rain and lightning. The Hokies were on the course at the time.
