BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech golf team will continue its spring season this weekend at the 2011 Pinehurst Intercollegiate men’s golf tournament, to be played in Pinehurst, N.C. The event will be played Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the 6,990-yard, par-72 Tom Fazio-designed The Club at Pinehurst #6.
Senior Marshall Bailey (Fincastle, Virginia) will play in the first position for the Hokies. He led the Hokies in scoring during the fall season, with a stroke average of 71.40 strokes per round and finished tied for fourth in Puerto Rico in February.
Sophomore Mike Moyers (Stanardsville, Virginia) will play second for the Hokies. He was second in scoring in the fall, at 71.93 strokes per round. Senior Garland Green (Tazewell, Virginia) is in the line-up at No. 3 following his 13th place finish in Puerto Rico and junior Blake Redmond (Sugar Land, Texas) will play fourth. Freshman Bryce Chalkley (Richmond, Virginia) will play in the fifth spot for the Hokies. Redshirt freshman Marc MacDonald (Harare, Zimbabwe) will make his first appearance of the spring as an individual at Pinehurst.
The Hokies, ranked 45th nationally in Golfweek/Sagarin and 46th in Golfstat.com polls, are joined in the 16-team field by Belmont, Eastern Kentucky, Eastern Michigan, Francis Marion, Marshall, Michigan State, UNC Greensboro, UNC Wilmington, Old Dominion, Penn State, Radford, Richmond, VCU, Western Illinois and Xavier. The Hokies opened the spring slate with a fifth place finish at the Puerto Rico Classic in February.
