RIO GRANDE, P.R. – Virginia Tech shot a one-under-par 287 and is in fourth place in the Puerto Rico Classic following Monday’s second round. The event is being played at the 6,902-yard, par-72 Rio Mar Country Club’s River Course. Tech has a two-day total of three-under-par 573.

Senior Marshall Bailey (Fincastle, Virginia) shot a one-under-par 71 and is tied for fifth place with a two-day total of 140. Bud Cauley of Alabama leads the event at 137.

Senior Garland Green (Tazewell, Virginia) is tied for eighth place at 141 and junior Blake Redmond (Sugar Land, Texas) is tied for 15th at even-par 144. Sophomore Mikey Moyers (Stanardsville, Virginia) and freshman Bryce Chalkley (Richmond, Virginia) are tied for 52nd at 149.

Georgia Tech and Alabama are tied for the lead in the event at 562, six strokes ahead of No. 1 Oklahoma State and 11 strokes ahead of the Hokies. Oklahoma is fifth at 576, Texas is sixth at 577, Georgia is seventh at 580, Clemson is eighth at 581 and NC State is ninth at 583. East Tennessee State is 10th at 587, UNC Greensboro is 11th at 589, host Purdue is 12th at 590, Ohio State is 13th at 591, Northwestern is 14th at 592 and Michigan is 15th at 602.

The 15-team tournament, which annually has one of collegiate golf’s top fields, features 12 teams in the top 50 nationally, according to the Golfweek/Sagarin ratings. Three of the nation’s top five teams, including the No. 1 Cowboys, are in the field. The Hokies are currently ranked 53rd in Golfweek’s rankings.

The final round will be played on Tuesday.
