Hokies wrap up fall season in Bridgestone
Tech set for two-day tournament at Forest Oaks

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Virginia Tech golf team will wrap up its 2010-11 fall slate of tournaments this weekend at the sixth annual UNCG Bridgestone Golf Collegiate men’s golf tournament, to be played in Greensboro, N.C. The event will be played Saturday and Sunday at the 7,197-yard, par-72 Forest Oaks Country Club.

Senior Marshall Bailey (Fincastle, Virginia) will once again play in the first position for the Hokies. He has led the Hokies in each of the last two events this season. He leads the team in stroke average, at 71.67 strokes per round.

Sophomore Mikey Moyers (Stanardsville, Virginia) will play second for the Hokies. He led Tech in scoring in each of the first two events of the fall and is second in scoring average this season, at 72.75 strokes per round. Junior Blake Redmond (Sugar Land, Texas) will play third and freshman Bryce Chalkley (Richmond, Virginia) returns to the line-up at No. 4. Seniors Garland Green (Tazewell, Virginia) and Aaron Eckstein (Salem, Virginia) will also be competing in the tournament.

This weekend’s 14-team tournament features five teams in the top 40 nationally, according to the Golfweek/Sagarin ratings. Golfstat.com’s team rankings have Auburn in ninth, Michigan 30th, Northwestern at No. 32, Charlotte at No. 36 and Pepperdine at No. 39. The Hokies are currently ranked 64th in Golfweek’s rankings. Other teams competing, along with the Hokies are host UNC Greensboro, Kentucky, Michigan State, Mississippi State, Minnesota, North Carolina, Toledo and VCU.

The teams played practice rounds on Friday. Friday’s activities also featureed a youth clinic for the First Tee of the Triad program. The event will feature 36 holes of play on Saturday and the final round set for Sunday. Forest Oaks Country Club is the former home of the PGA Tour’s stop in Greensboro.
