JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. – The Virginia Tech golf team shot a three-round total of 15-over-par 879 and finished tied with UNC Wilmington for ninth place at the 13th annual Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at The Ridges on Sunday afternoon. The tournament was played at the 7,147-yard, par-72 The Ridges Golf and Country Club in Jonesborough, Tenn. The Hokies shot an even-par 288 in Sunday’s final round following a 291 on Saturday and a 300 on Friday.

Senior Marshall Bailey (Fincastle, Virginia) led the Hokies with a one-over-par 217. He finished in a tie for 16th place, 14 strokes behind medalist Mackenzie Hughes of Kent State.

Senior Garland Green (Tazewell, Virginia) tied for 35th place at 223 and junior Blake Redmond (Sugar Land, Texas) tied for 42nd at 224. Sophomore Mikey Moyers (Stanardsville, Virginia) tied for 48th place at 225 and senior Aaron Eckstein (Salem, Virginia) finished in a tie for 57th at 229.

Freshman Bryce Chalkley (Richmond, Virginia) and redshirt freshman Marc MacDonald (Harare, Zimbabwe) played the tournament as individuals. Chalkey had the best score among unattached players, as he finished in a tie for 21st place at 218. MacDonald finished in 68th place at 233.

Virginia finished with an 11-under-par 853 to overtake two-day leader Kent State by four strokes to claim team honors. Chattanooga finished third at 864, Wake Forest was fourth at 867 and Michigan and Tennessee tied for fifth at 873. North Carolina finished seventh at 876 and host East Tennessee State was eighth at 878, one stroke ahead of the Hokies and Seahawks. Missouri finished 11th at 885, Louisville was 12th at 888, Coastal Carolina was 13th at 889 and Denver was 14th at 913.

The Hokies will conclude the fall portion of the 2010-11 schedule on Oct. 23-24, as they compete in the UNCG Bridgestone Invitational. The tournament will be played at Forest Oaks Golf Club in Greensboro, North Carolina.
