JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. – The Virginia Tech golf team shot a second round three-over-par 291 and is in ninth place at the 13th annual Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at The Ridges on Saturday. The tournament is being played at the 7,147-yard, par-72 The Ridges Golf and Country Club in Jonesborough, Tenn. The Hokies have a two-round total of 591, after shooting 300 in Friday’s first round.
Senior Marshall Bailey (Fincastle, Virginia) and junior Blake Redmond (Sugar Land, Texas) are tied for 18th place with two-round totals of two-over-par 146. They are eight strokes behind co-leaders Jace Long of Missouri and Mackenzie Hughes of Kent State.
Senior Garland Green (Tazewell, Virginia) is tied for 38th place at 149. Sophomore Mikey Moyers (Stanardsville, Virginia) is tied for 60th at 155 and senior Aaron Eckstein (Salem, Virginia) is tied for 62nd place at 156.
Freshman Bryce Chalkley (Richmond, Virginia) is playing the event as an individual and is in 17th place at 145, after a second round one-under-par 71. Redshirt freshman Marc MacDonald (Harare, Zimbabwe) is also playing as an individual and is tied for 56th place at 154.
Kent State holds the lead entering the final round with a two-day total of five-under-par 571, four strokes ahead of Virginia. UNC Wilmington is third at 578, Chattanooga and Wake Forest are tied for fourth at 582, Missouri is sixth at 584, North Carolina is seventh at 585 and Tennessee is in eighth at 589, two strokes ahead of the Hokies. Michigan is 10th at 593, East Tennessee State is 11th at 595, Coastal Carolina is 12th at 600, Louisville is 13th at 604 and Denver is in 14th at 610. The final round will be played on Sunday.
