JONESBOROUGH, TENN. – The Virginia Tech golf team will return to action Friday through Sunday at the 13th annual Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at The Ridges. The tournament will be played at the 7,147-yard, par-72 The Ridges Golf and Country Club in Jonesborough, Tenn.
Senior Marshall Bailey (Fincastle, Virginia) will play in the top spot for the Hokies this weekend. Bailey finished tied for fifth at the Brickyard Collegiate Golf Championship in Macon, Georgia on Sunday. He currently leads Hokie regulars in stroke average, at 71.44 strokes per round.
Sophomore Mikey Moyers (Stanardsville, Virginia) will play in the second postion and junior Blake Redmond (Sugar Land, Texas) will play third for the Hokies. Seniors Garland Green (Tazewell, Virginia) and Aaron Eckstein (Salem, Virginia) will round out the field for Tech. Redshirt freshman Marc MacDonald (Harare, Zimbabwe) and freshman Bryce Chalkley (Richmond, Virginia) will play in the tournament as individuals.
The 14-team field features four ACC teams and five teams in the top 50 of the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings. Competing this year are Chattanooga, Coastal Carolina, Denver, Kent State, Louisville, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Wake Forest and UNC Wilmington, along with the Hokies and host East Tennessee State. The Hokies will tee off at 9:20 a.m. on Friday morning, grouped with Tennessee and UNC Wilmington.
Last year, the Hokies finished fourth in the tournament and Green posted his best collegiate finish, tying for second place. The Hokies, who did not compete in the event in 2008, won the 2007 tournament.
