Hokies tied for ninth after two days at Brickyard

MACON, Ga. – The Virginia Tech golf team shot a second round five-over-par 293 and is tied with Mississippi for ninth place at the Brickyard Collegiate Golf Championship at the par-72, 7,175-yard Brickyard at Riverside golf course in Macon, Georgia on Saturday afternoon. The Hokies have a two-day total of 591. They shot a 10-over-par 298 on Friday.

Senior Marshall Bailey (Fincastle, Virginia) is tied for eighth place individually at two-under-par 142. He shot a two-under-par 70 on Saturday. He trails leader Russell Henley of Georgia by two strokes. Bailey birdied each of his final three holes in round two.

Junior Blake Redmond (Sugar Land, Texas) is tied for 13th place at even-par 144 after his second straight 72. Sophomore Mikey Moyers (Stanardsville, Virginia) is tied for 44th place at 150 and senior Garland Green (Tazewell, Virginia) is tied for 72nd at 157. Senior Aaron Eckstein (Salem, Virginia) is tied for 74th place at 158. Freshman Bryce Chalkley (Richmond, Virginia) is playing the tournament as an individual, shot his second straight 77 and is tied for 54th place.

Day-one leader Georgia maintained its lead with a four-under-par 284, for a total of five-under-par 571. They are nine strokes ahead of Florida State and Georgia Tech. Augusta State and Chattanooga are tied for fourth at 583 and Oklahoma and North Florida are ted for sixth at 589. Texas-Arlington is eighth at 590, one stroke ahead of the Hokies and Rebels. Clemson is 11th at 592, Colorado State is 12th at 598, host Mercer is 13th at 599, Gonzaga is 14th at 600 and Boston College is 15th at 633. The Hokies’ 293 was the fifth-best round of Saturday.
