BLACKBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech golf team will travel Macon, Georgia this weekend for the Brickyard Collegiate Golf Championship at the par-72, 7,175-yard Brickyard at Riverside golf course. The tournament will feature a strong 15-team field that annually ranks among the best in all of collegiate golf.

Sophomore Mikey Moyers (Stanardsville, Virginia) will play in the top spot for the Hokies. Moyers leads the team in scoring this season and has been Tech’s leader in each of the first two events on the fall slate.

Senior Marshall Bailey (Fincastle, Virginia) will compete in the second spot for the Hokies and junior Blake Redmond (Sugar Land, Texas) will play third for Tech. Seniors Aaron Eckstein (Salem, Virginia) and Garland Green (Tazewell, Virginia) will play in the fourth and fifth positions, respectively. Freshman Bryce Chalkley (Richmond, Virginia) will play the event as an individual.

The 15-team field will feature defending national champion Augusta State, defending Southeastern Conference champion, Georgia and defending Atlantic Coast Conference champion, Georgia Tech. This trio will be grouped together and will open play in the tournament Friday morning at 8:30 a.m. Also in the field are four other teams ranked in the top 50 by the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings: Colorado State (40), North Florida (42), Florida State (44) and Clemson (50). Along with the Hokies, other teams competing in the three-day event are host Mercer, Ole Miss, Texas-Arlington, Chattanooga, Boston College, Gonzaga and Oklahoma. Augusta State is 5th in the rankings, Georgia Tech 10th and Georgia 16th.

The Hokies will be grouped with North Florida and Texas-Arlington and will open play on Friday morning at 10:10 a.m., from the first tee. Chalkley will be grouped with Alex Street of Mercer and Joaquin Lolas of Florida State and they will tee off from the 10th hole at 9 a.m.

The event will feature 18 holes of action on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Live scoring of the event will be available on Golfstat.com.

Last year, the Hokies tied for seventh place in the tournament, which was shortened to two rounds due to inclement weather. Moyers led the Hokies, finishing tied for 15th individually. Bailey and Green also finished in the top 30 last season.
