Virginia Tech golfer Mikey Moyers will begin play in the 2010 U.S. Amateur Championship at the Chambers Bay Golf Course in University Place, Washington on Monday morning.

Moyers, a sophomore from Stanardsville, Va., won sectional qualifying earlier this month at Birdwood Country Club in Charlottesville, to gain a spot in the field. The U.S. Amateur will be played on the 7,742-yard, par 71 Chambers Bay Golf Course. This is the longest U.S. Amateur course in the history of the event. There will also be play on the 7,420-yard, par 72 Home Course in nearby Dupont, Washington, during stroke play.

The field of 312 will play 18 holes on both August 23 and 24 before the top 64 players in advance to six rounds of match play. The event will conclude with a 36-hole championship match.

Moyers will be grouped with Patrick Reed of Augusta State and Louis-Alexandre Pitre of Canada in the first round. The group will tee off at 9:15 a.m. PDT on the first hole of the Chambers Bay course.
