Hokies improve to sixth at ACC Championship
Bailey tied for 12th
NEW LONDON, N. C. -- The Virginia Tech golf team has a two round total of even-par 576 and is in sixth place at the 57th annual ACC Men’s Golf Championship at the par-72, 7,102-yard Old North State Club at Uwharrie Point in New London, N. C. on Saturday afternoon. The Hokies shot two-under-par 286 on Saturday to improve from their tied for seventh place position following their first round of 290.
Junior Marshall Bailey (Fincastle, Va. ) shot a three-under-par 69 on Saturday and has a two-round total of three-under-par 141 and is tied for 12th place entering Sunday’s final round. Bailey is six strokes behind Georgia Tech’s Chesson Hadley and defending co-medalist Matt Hill of NC State, who share the 36-hole lead at 135.
Freshman Mikey Moyers (Stanardsville, Va. ) shot a 70 on Saturday and is tied for 22nd place at even-par 144 and sophomore Blake Redmond (Sugar Land, Tex. ) is tied for 29th at 146. Junior Garland Green (Tazewell, Va. ) is tied for 36th at 147 and junior Aaron Eckstein (Salem, Va. ) is tied for 46th at 152.
Defending champion Georgia Tech holds the lead after the second round with a 21-under-par 555, seven strokes ahead of Duke. Wake Forest is third at 563, Virginia is fourth at 566 and Clemson is fifth at 569, seven strokes ahead of the Hokies. Florida State,NC State and Maryland are tied for seventh at 579, North Carolina is 10th at 581 and Boston College is 11th at 596.
The Hokies tied for seventh last year at the ACC Championship and advanced to the NCAA Southwest Regional in Austin, Tex. The final round will be played Sunday morning.
