Former Virginia Tech golfer Brendon de Jonge finished in a tie for 18th place at the BMW Championship on Monday and in doing so, finished in 27th place on the FedEx Cup list. By placing in the top 30 of the list, de Jonge has qualified for the 2013 TOUR Championship by Coca Cola at the East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Ga., Sept. 19-22.
The limited field of the top 30 players on the FedEx Cup list will compete for a total purse of $8 million, with the winner’s share of $1.44 million. de Jonge will be paired with D.A. Points in the first round. The duo will tee off at 11:50 a.m. on Thursday. This is the first time that de Jonge has advanced to this event, the final tournament in the four-event FedEx Cup playoff.
