Mondy wins Allegheny Amateur
The Notebook

Virginia Tech golfer Ryan Mondy shot a two-round total of eight-under-par 136 and won the Allegheny Amateur at the Blacksburg Country Club on Sunday.

Mondy, a freshman from Blacksburg who plays out of BCC, shot four-under-par 68 in both Saturday and Sunday rounds. He defeated Justin Young by five strokes and the trio of Brad Chambers, Ryan Retburg and teammate Miles Curley by seven strokes.

Mondy, who won the tournament in 2011, becomes the latest in a long line of Hokie golfers to win the prestigious amateur event. Current PGA Tour standout Brendon de Jonge won the first three years of the event in 2001, 2002 and 2003. Garland Green, brother of Virginia Tech women’s golf coach Carol Robertson, won in 2007 and Virginia Tech junior Scott Vincent won the tournament last year.
