The Notebook

Virginia Tech golfers Mikey Moyers and Bryce Chalkley were ousted on Friday from the 100th Virginia State Golf Association Amateur Championship being played this week at The Homestead’s Cascades Course.

Chalkley, a rising senior from Richmond and the second seed in match play, fell to Ji Soo Park of Clifton and the University of Virginia in 20 holes of play in the morning’s quarterfinal action. Chalkley was two up through the 15th hole, but Park won the 16th and 17th holes and then birdied the 20th hole for the victory.

Moyers, who completed his eligibility with the Hokies this spring, defeated Evan Beck of Virginia Beach and Wake Forest University, 5 and 4 in the morning quarterfinal match. In the afternoon’s semifinal, Moyers, the fourth seed in match play and a native of Stanardsville, fell one up to Brinson Paolini of Virginia Beach and Duke University. Paolini and Park will play the 36-hole championship on Saturday at the Cascades.
