Vincent opens with a 70 at World Am

Virginia Tech golfer Scott Vincent shot an opening-round two-under-par 70 at the World Amateur Team Championship in Turkey on Thursday morning. Vincent, playing for his native Zimbabwe, is tied for 24th overall.

Zimbabwe shot a six-under-par 138 and is tied for seventh place overall. They trail first round leader the United States by six strokes.

Chris Williams of the United States and the University of Washington leads the individuals with an eight-under-pat 64, two strokes ahead of Sebastian Vazquez of Mexico. Vazquez was grouped with Vincent in the first round.

Vincent will tee off at 12:55 p.m. local time from the first hole of the Sultan Course on Friday. He will be grouped with Guan Tianlang of the Peoples Republic of China and John Paul Garrido of the Dominican Republic. Tianlang is just 13 years old and is the youngest golfer ever to compete on the European Tour.
