Virginia Tech golfer Scott Vincent will compete in the World Amateur Team Championship in Antalya, Turkey from October 4-7, 2012.

Vincent, a sophomore for the Hokies, will be competing for his native Zimbabwe in this event, that will see the top amateur golfers from a record 72 countries compete for the team championship. The winning team will take home the Eisenhower Trophy, named in honor of the late Dwight Eisenhower, the 34^th president of the United States.

While playing in this event, Vincent will miss the Hokies’ scheduled event at the Brickyard Collegiate Golf Championship in Macon, Ga. Vincent leads the Hokies in scoring through the first two events of the fall season and is tied for third in the ACC in scoring average. Vincent has finished in the top 5 in each event this season. The Hokies have won each of the two events this year.

Each team has two or three players, who each play 18 holes of stroke play over four days. In each round, the total of the two lowest scores from each team constitutes the team score for the round. The four-day (72-hole) total is the team’s score for the championship.

The tournament will be played at the Cornelia Golf Club and the PGA Sultan Course of the Antalya Golf Club. Cornelia G.C. will be set up at 6,886 yards/6,293 meters and will play to par of 36-36-72. The PGA Sultan Course will be set up at 6,954 yards/6,359 meters and will play to a par of 35-36-71.

Vincent will tee off at 8:50 a.m. local time from the 10^th hole of the Sultan Course. He is grouped with Sebastian Vazquez of Mexico and Simon Zach of the Czech Republic. Local time in Antalya, Turkey is seven hours ahead of local time in Virginia.

France won the 27th World Amateur Team Championship by four strokes over Denmark and by five over the USA to claim its first Eisenhower Trophy at Buenos Aires Golf Club in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The championships are rotated biennially among three geographic zones: Asia–Pacific, America, and Europe–Africa. The 2014 championships will be played in Karuizawa, Japan. The 2016 World Amateur Team Championships site will be determined during the 2012 championships.

The event is being conducted by the International Golf Federation and hosted by the Turkish Golf Federation.
