Huge finishes strong at U.S. Amateur, but fails to advance to match play

Maclain Huge, an incoming freshman for the Hokies, shot a second round three-under-par 67 at the 112th U.S. Amateur Golf Championship on Tuesday afternoon. The championship is being played at the Cherry Hills Country Club and the Common Ground Golf Course in the Denver, Colorado area.

Huge, playing the Common Ground course on Tuesday afternoon, recorded five birdies in the second round. Huge was grouped with Justin Holyszko of Bay City, Michigan and Korean Yi Keun Chang. Huge posted the lowest score in his group.

Huge concluded stroke play with a total of five-over-par 146 and finished tied for 100th place. He shot an eight-over-par 79 in the opening round on Monday morning, playing the Cherry Hills course. The field of 312 participated in 36 holes of stroke play before the top 64 players advanced to six rounds of match play. The event will conclude with a 36-hole championship match.
