Huge qualifies for U.S. Amateur
The Notebook

Incoming freshman Maclain Huge has qualified to compete in the 2012 U.S. Amateur Golf Championship, to be played August 13-19 at the Cherry Hills Country Club in Cherry Hills Village, Colo.

Huge overcame a sluggish start by playing the last 27 holes in seven-under par and final 14 holes in five-under par and finished second in 36-hole qualifying event at Woodholme C.C. in Pikesville, Md. A first round 74 left him in 10th place, but an afternoon round of 67 was good enough to capture one of the three spots available at Woodholme for the championship.

Senior Mikey Moyers played in the qualifier at the Woods Course at the Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg and was the second alternate to the U.S. Amateur at that site. His scores of 70-68 were one stroke off the pace set by four players, who played off for the three spots available and the first alternate position.
