The Notebook
Former Virginia Tech golfer Johnson Wagner failed to make the cut at The Masters Tournament held at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Ga. But he currently ranks in the top six on the FedEx Cup points list and on the PGA Tour’s money list.
Wagner, who has made the cut in nine of the 11 tournaments he’s played, currently is fourth in the FedExCup standings with 1,056 points. He trails leader Hunter Mahan by 322 points, with Bubba Watson in second and Phil Mickelson in third. The top 125 points earners qualify for the playoffs, which start with The Barclays held at Bethpage State Park in Farmingdale, N.Y., on Aug. 23-26.
Wagner’s slightly more than $2 million in earnings so far this year ranks sixth on the PGA Tour’s money list behind Watson, Mahan, Mickelson, Rory McIlroy and Justin Rose.
Brendon de Jonge, another former Tech golfer, ranks 70th in the FedExCup standings with 251 points. He ranks 79th on the money list with $369,675 in earnings this year. He has made the cut in seven of the 10 tournaments in which he has played.
