Virginia Tech associate head golf coach Brian Sharp was honored at the Golf Coaches Association of America’s national convention last week at the Tropicana Hotel in Las Vegas.
Sharp was honored for being the assistant coach on the victorious 2010 Team USA, which defeated Europe in the Palmer Cup, 13-11 at Royal Port Rush in Northern Ireland in June. US head coach Chris Zambri was also honored.
Sharp earned the right to be the assistant coach by winning
the 2009 Jan Strickland Award Presented by TaylorMade-Adidas to the Assistant
Coach of the Year, as selected by the GCAA. The Strickland Award is given to
the NCAA Division I, II, III or NAIA assistant coach that, among other things,
has excelled in working with their student-athletes both on the course and in
the classroom. He received the Strickland Award at last year’s GCAA national
convention.
