Lots happening in final home games for the Hokies

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech Athletics Department has announced a number of special happenings and events, as the Hokies near the end of the 2017-18 men’s basketball season.

Three home games remain at Carilion Clinic Court at Cassell Coliseum. The Louisville and Duke games are sold out, but a limited number of tickets remain for the Feb. 21 game with nationally ranked Clemson. Tickets can be purchased online at HokieTickets.com.

The Clemson game will be Social Media Night, Hokies for Hokies and Student Organization Night. Throughout the game, fans are encouraged to interact with the HokiesMBB social accounts by using #HokiesSocial. The first 500 fans to “check in” to the game on the Facebook event and show their phones at the marketing booth (Section 1) can receive a free Virginia Tech tank top. There will be various other social elements during the game, including a special social media-themed giveaway to the student section.

Hokies for Hokies – All student-athletes are encouraged to attend the game. The athletics department also will recognize the Virginia Tech All-Academic Team, which is comprised of 30 student-athletes and support group members with the highest grade-point average for the 2017 calendar year. GPA’s of this group range from 3.37 to 4.0. Also, Virginia Tech student organizations will be tabling on the concourse before the game.

The department will recognize former Virginia Tech baseball coach Chuck Hartman during a pregame ceremony for his Virginia Sports Hall of Fame induction later this spring.

The Louisville game on Feb. 24 will be Breast Cancer Awareness Day. Fans are encouraged to wear pink apparel in support of Breast Cancer Awareness month. The Hokies will wear pink-trimmed uniforms in awareness of the cause.

In addition, it’s the 33rd annual Hokie Celebration game. Sponsored by the Blacksburg Hokie Club, more than 90 silent auction items will be available on the concourse from 11 a.m.-12:45 p.m. There will be a pregame and postgame social in the Bowman Room. The Duke game on Feb. 26 will be Senior Night and the annual “Maroon Out” effect game. Fans are encouraged to purchase the official Maroon Out effect t-shirt at the Tech Bookstore or on the Cassell Coliseum concourse.

The athletics department and men’s basketball team will recognize graduating senior student-athletes before the game. Devin Wilson, Justin Bibbs, and managers Jason Swart and Michael Reutt will be recognized during the ceremony, so fans are encouraged to arrive early.

The Hokie Lights pregame show makes a return. Download the Hokie Lights app in the iPhone App Store or on Google Play in the Android store to participate in a cell phone light show during introductions.

The always-popular Red Panda will perform at halftime of the Duke game, courtesy of Coca-Cola. The game will be the second of two ESPN “Big Monday” games for the Hokies this season.

Also of note, the ACC Tournament Ticket Application deadline is approaching. Hokie Club members and men’s basketball season ticket holders are eligible to purchase ACC Tournament Booklets. The deadline to order is by Friday at 5 p.m. Fans should log in to their ticket account to order. The ACC Tournament will be held in Brooklyn, New York, on March 6-10. Tournament booklets include a ticket to all games.

Should the Hokies advance to postseason play, ticket information will be shared at that time.
