CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Guard Justin Robinson turned in the third double-double of his career to guide the Virginia Tech men’s basketball team to an 85-80 overtime win against Boston College inside Conte Forum on Wednesday night.
The Hokies (16-6, 5-4 ACC) have already matched last year’s win total on the road in league play, defeating the Eagles (13-9, 3-6 ACC) to close the month of January.
Robinson posted 10 points and 12 assists, marking his second double-double ironically at Boston College. The junior's 12 assists set Tech's single-game assist record in ACC play, passing fellow teammate Devin Wilson's 11 against Duke on Feb. 25, 2015.
Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Justin Bibbs each scored 18 points, while Kerry Blackshear Jr. had a team-high 20 points, including a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe, and eight rebounds.
Boston College began the game with the momentum on its home floor, going up by eight points at the 7:24 mark. However, Tech scored eight straight points to tie it up behind an Alexander-Walker 3-pointer, a Chris Clarke old school three-point play and a Blackshear layup.
In the final five minutes of the first half, the two teams traded buckets until the final 40 seconds when the Hokies finished on a 6-0 run to take a five-point lead into the break at 34-29.
Tech pushed the lead to 11 points to start the second half, but four different Eagles answered with a 3-pointer, cutting the deficit to one at the 13-minute mark.
Trailing by seven points with 1:42 left, Boston College finished regulation on a 7-0 run – all at the free-throw line – to force overtime.
With the score knotted at 79-79 with 2 minutes to go in the extra period, Alexander-Walker crossed over an Eagle and buried a 3-pointer to earn back the advantage the Hokies would never relinquish.
Jerome Robinson paced the Eagles, registering a game-high 32 points and five assists.
