TONIGHT’S GAME
The Hokies enter the game 11-3 overall and 0-1 in ACC action. The Cavaliers are 12-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play. The Cavaliers are ranked eighth in the AP poll and ninth in the coaches poll. This is the ACC home opener for the Hokies.
THE SERIES
Tech is 55-90 all-time against the Cavaliers and 16-7 all-time against UVa in Cassell Coliseum. Tech won the last meeting, 80-78, in double overtime in Cassell Coliseum on Feb. 12, 2017. The teams split the two meetings in each of the last two seasons, with Tech winning at home in both years. Tech is 10-16 in ACC regular season games. Tech is 2-4 against the Cavaliers under Buzz Williams.
COMMONWEALTH CLASH
Tonight’s game is part of the Commonwealth Clash, which is a points-based competition between Virginia Tech and Virginia athletics teams. The Hokies won last year’s Commonwealth Clash. The clash tied, 11-11, but Tech won the tie-breaker by winning four ACC team titles. Tech leads this season, 4-1.
