Hokies come back to down Ole Miss in overtime, 83-80

OXFORD, Miss. – Virginia Tech overcame a 16-point second half deficit to defeat Ole Miss, 83-80, in overtime at the Pavilion at Ole Miss on Saturday afternoon. The Hokies improve to 7-1 overall, while the Rebels fall to 4-3 overall.

Ole Miss jumped out to a big lead early in the game and took a 39-29 lead into intermission. In the second half, Ole Miss opened with an 8-2 run and took a 47-31 lead at the 18:00 mark of the second half.

Tech began to chip away at the deficit and when Justin Robinson hit a three-pointer with 3:31 remaining in regulation, the scored was tied 64-64. Tech took its first lead of the second half on a pair of made free throws by Robinson with 1:02 remaining. Markel Crawford made a lay-up in the final seconds to tie the game at 72-72 and send it to an overtime period.

In the extra session, Tech led through most of the five minutes. Nickeil Alexander-Walker made a pair of free throws with 20 seconds remaining to give Tech the final 83-80 margin.

Kerry Blackshear Jr., led five Hokies in double figures with 17 points. Chris Clarke came off the bench to record a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Terrence Davis and Breein Tyree scored 17 points each for the Rebels.

The Hokies return to action on Wednesday night, as they host New River Valley foe Radford at Carilion Clinic Court at Cassell Coliseum. Tip-off is 6 p.m., and the game will be streamed live on the ACC Network Extra.
