Hokie Hoops Madness shines in Cassell Coliseum
Special NCAA ring presentation highlights evening
October 20, 2017
The Virginia Tech men’s and women’s basketball teams took to the newly redesigned court at the Carilion Clinic Court at Cassell Coliseum on Friday night. The teams were not in competition, but were there to celebrate the upcoming season, thank the Hokie Nation and look back on the 2016-17 season, which was very special to both programs.
The night featured skills demonstrations, fun fan interactive games and performances by Virginia Tech Spirit squads and the Marching Virginians’ drum line. Fans were treated to free pizza and were afforded a chance to get a close look at both teams, as they near their upcoming seasons.
Both teams revealed their banners from last year’s postseason play. The highlight of the evening was the final segment of the event, as the men’s basketball team had a very special NCAA ring presentation. Not only did players, coaches, staff and support personal receive their rings, but members of the local and university community were on the court to serve as honorary ring bearers. This afforded the members of the program the opportunity to thank the various important members of the Hokie Nation for the support given during the last three years.
The women’s and men’s basketball teams open the 2017-18 season on Friday, Nov. 10. The men open with Detroit Mercy at 6 p.m., as part of the 2K Classic. The women will host Wagner immediately following the men’s game.
Season tickets for men’s and women’s basketball are on sale to the general public. Please visit HokieTickets.com for more information.
