Jeff Reynolds promoted to Director of Scouting/Game Management
New title better reflects day-to-day responsibilities

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Virginia Tech head men’s basketball coach Buzz Williams has announced that Jeff Reynolds is being promoted to Director of Scouting/Game Management.
Reynolds has just completed his third season as the director of men’s basketball operations with the Hokies. A veteran of 35 years in the college basketball coaching world, Reynolds has been a head coach at all three levels of NCAA basketball (the Air Force Academy, Wingate and North Carolina Wesleyan). He has been on Williams’ staff for the past five seasons at Virginia Tech and Marquette.
"Jeff just finished his fifth season with us, and thus far in his tenure, his title has yet to reflect his responsibilities,” Williams said. “It is important to me that we finally get his title more in-tuned with his role, even though Jeff never asked for the change. He has been critically important to the strategy, planning, and execution of what we want to be about on the floor each season. Although we have been forced to change to a degree each year, his wisdom as a former head coach has been irreplaceable. Knowing what we want to try and accomplish is imperative, but in a league as powerful as this, working year-around studying the nuisances and patterns of the opponent has been just as important, and Jeff has been phenomenal in handling both sides of that. His new title more accurately reflects what he does on a daily basis."
Reynolds manages a wide array of off-court duties for the Hokies. His experience at all levels of coaching and basketball are invaluable to Williams and the program. Reynolds’ work ethic and keen sense of detail allow for his significant input into strategy, daily staff planning and scouting. This new title better reflects not only his day-to-day responsibilities, but also his long-term and off-season importance to the program. Reynolds is a 1978 graduate of UNC Greensboro and is married to the former Janet Montgomery.
