Hokies face Badgers in NCAA Tournament in Buffalo

The ninth seed Virginia Tech men's basketball team plays eighth seed Wisconsin on Thursday, March 16 in the first round of the 2017 NCAA Tournament’s East Regional. The game, to be played in the KeyBank Center in Buffalo, New York, will tip at 9:40 p.m. The game will be shown nationally on CBS.

THE HOKIES (22-10)
The Hokies enter the game 22-10 overall. Tech lost to No. 16/17 Florida State in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament last Thursday night in Brooklyn. Zach LeDay led the Hokies with 22 points and 9 rebounds and Seth Allen added 17 points. Justin Robinson had 14 points and six assists.

THE BADGERS (25-9)
Wisconsin enters the game 25-9 overall. The Badgers lost to Michigan in the finals of the Big Ten Tournament on Sunday. Bronson Koenig leads the Badgers with 14.1 points per game and Ethan Happ averages 13.9 points per game. Wisconsin is coached by Greg Gard, in his second season in Madison.

THE SERIES
This will be the second all-time meeting between the Hokies and the Badgers. Wisconsin won the only previous meeting, 74-72, on Dec. 1, 2008 in Cassell Coliseum in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Buzz Williams has faced Wisconsin six times previously, all coming while Williams was the head coach at Marquette … Williams is 3-3 against the Badgers. The Hokies are 36-51 all-time against schools currently in the Big Ten Conference, but Tech has won the last two meetings.
