Hokies fall to No. 16/17 Florida State, 74-68

Zach LeDay scores 22 points to lead Tech

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Virginia Tech lost to No. 16/17 Florida State, 74-68, in the quarterfinals of the 2017 ACC Tournament in Barclays Center on Thursday night. With the loss, Tech falls to 22-10 overall, while the Seminoles improve to 25-7.

The Hokies held the lead throughout the first half. Tech took its largest lead at 16-8 on a three-pointer by Seth Allen with 11:50 remaining before the half. The Hokies had a 35-33 lead heading into the intermission.

In the second half, Florida State took their first lead of the game with 18:06 remaining in the game and took the lead for good with 8:49 remaining on a three-pointer by Terance Mann. Tech trailed by 15 points with 4:01 remaining, but cut the lead to five points in the final minute, but could get know closer and the Seminoles held on for the win.

Zach LeDay led the Hokies with 22 points and nine rebounds. Seth Allen added 17 points and five assists and Justin Robinson had 14 points and six assists. Dwayne Bacon led the Seminoles with 17 points.

FSU won the battle of the boards, out rebounding the Hokies, 45-31, including 18-8 on the offensive glass. Tech made eight three-pointers to FSU’s three and the Hokies made 20 of their 25 free throw attempts.

Florida State advances to Friday’s semifinal round, where they will play the winner of Virginia-Notre Dame. Tech will now await its postseason fate, to be determined on Sunday night.
