Robinson named to 2017 All-ACC Academic Team

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Virginia Tech guard Justin Robinson has been named to the 2017 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Men’s Basketball team, as announced today by Commissioner John Swofford.

To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.

Robinson, a sophomore from Manassas, Virginia, makes the team for the first time. The Communications major leads the Hokies in assists this season and is sixth in the ACC in assists.

Miami senior Davon Reed is the recipient of the league’s 2017 Skip Prosser Award. The Skip Prosser Award is presented annually to the top scholar-athlete in ACC men’s basketball. It is named in memory of Wake Forest head basketball coach George Edward “Skip” Prosser, who passed away on July 26, 2007. Prosser compiled a 291-146 career record in 14 seasons as a head coach, including a 126-68 mark in his six years with Wake Forest. Every Wake Forest senior he coached graduated, and the Deacons placed nine players on the annual All-ACC Academic Basketball Team during his tenure.

To be nominated for the Skip Prosser Award, a student-athlete must be an upperclassman with a grade-point average of 3.0 or better – both in his career and in the previous two semesters. Sixty percent of the award is based on academic achievement and 40 percent on athletic accomplishments.

The All-ACC Academic Team includes four of the league’s top 20 scorers – Syracuse grad student Andrew White III, Georgia Tech freshman Josh Okogie, Miami’s Reed and Duke junior Grayson Allen. It also features the league’s sixth leading rebounder in Syracuse sophomore Tyler Lydon.

Allen, Reed, and Louisville’s Snider each earned spots on the honors team for a third time. Louisville’ Deng Adel and Raymond Spalding, Clemson’s Gabe DeVoe, Duke’s Chase Jeter, Pitt’s Cameron Johnson and Ryan Luther, North Carolina’s Luke Maye and Notre Dame’s Rex Pflueger are repeat selections for last season.
