LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Virginia Tech made a school-record 17 three-pointers, but fell in a close game at No. 8/7 Louisville, 94-90, on Saturday afternoon in ACC men’s basketball action in the KFC Yum! Center. With the loss, the Hokies fall to 18-8 overall and 7-7 in conference play, while the Cardinals improve to 22-5 overall and 10-4 in ACC action.

Louisville jumped out to a 10 point lead early in the game, but the Hokies came roaring back, taking a 44-43 lead into the locker room at the half. The game remained close throughout the second half, mainly on the strength of Seth Allen’s career-high six three-pointers. Louisville led 91-85 with eight seconds remaining, when Ty Outlaw made his career-high fifth three-pointer of the game to cut the lead to 91-88, but the Hokies could get no closer. The Cardinals made three-of-four free throws in the final seconds to preserve the win.

Allen led five Hokies in double figures with a season-high 25 points. Outlaw added a career-high 19 points and Zach LeDay had 18 points and nine rebounds. Louisville’s Donovan Mitchell led all scorers with 26 points.

In a cleanly-played game that saw only 12 total turnovers, the story was the three-point shooting by both teams. Tech hit a school record 17 three-pointers and Louisville made 12 threes. Tech was 17 of 26 from beyond the arc for a school ACC record of 65.4 percent. Tech out shot the Cardinals from the floor, 59.2 percent to 51.5 percent.

The Hokies return home on Tuesday night, as they host Clemson. Game time is 7 p.m. and the game will be shown live on ESPNU. Tech will play three of its final four regular season games in Cassell Coliseum.
