Hokies claim 66-63 come-from-behind win at Pitt
Ahmed Hill leads four Hokies in double figures with 17 points

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Virginia Tech, which trailed by as many as 13 points in the second half, recorded a 66-63 come-from-behind victory at Pittsburgh in ACC men’s basketball action on Wednesday night. With the win, the Hokies improve to 18-7 overall and 7-6 in conference play, while Pitt falls to 14-12 overall and 3-10 in ACC action.
The Hokies fell behind in the first half and trailed 40-29 at the intermission. Early in the second half, the Panthers took a 13-point lead and led by as many as 11 points with 12:28 remaining in the game.
A turning point in the game came with 9:07 remaining, when Ahmed Hill scored on a breakaway, was intentionally fouled, made one free throw and Tech got the rebound. Justin Bibbs made a three-pointer from the corner to give the Hokies their first lead at 53-52.
The game remained close until the end, when trailing by four points with 1:37 remaining, Zach LeDay made a pair of free throws. After a Pitt turnover, Seth Allen made a three-pointer with 1:08 remaining. A pair of free throws by Justin Robinson gave Tech a 66-63 lead with 29.1 seconds remaining. Pitt had several shots on their final possession, but the Hokies held on for the win.
Hill led four Hokies in double figures with 17 points. Robinson added 15 points and dished out a career-high-tying eight assists. Bibbs scored 11 points and Zach LeDay recorded his fourth double-double of the season with 10 points and 11 rebounds. He also had three blocked shots. Cameron Johnson led the Panthers with 17 points.
Although out rebounded 43-29, the Hokies committed just eight turnovers, while forcing the Panthers into 13 turnovers. Tech made 10 three-pointers and was 12-15 from the line.
The Hokies played their first full game without leading rebounder Chris Clarke, who suffered a season-ending torn ACL in his left knee in Sunday’s win over No. 12/13 Virginia in Cassell Coliseum.
Tech completes this two-game road swing on Saturday, as they travel to No. 8/7 Louisville. Tip time is 1 p.m. and the game will be shown on The ACC Network.
