Hokie Lights Set For Sunday's Men's Basketball Game

BLACKSBURG, Va. – During the pregame introductions for Sunday night’s Virginia Tech vs. Virginia men’s basketball game in Cassell Coliseum, Tech fans can participate in “Hokie Lights”, a crowd-sourced light show via mobile app.

The app is free to download and available for Apple and Android phones. The light show will occur for the intro video and Virginia Tech starting lineups. The light show uses the cell phone flashlight to produce light and runs based on sound waves, not through Bluetooth, WiFi or cellular data.

Fans should search for “Hokie Lights” in the app store (Apple or Google Play) and will be instructed to open the app and “join the show” prior to the Virginia starting lineups. Fans are encouraged to download the app prior to arriving at Cassell Coliseum on Sunday.

This type of show has been used at various arenas around the country and, in conjunction with the state-of-the-art lighting system that has been added to Cassell Coliseum in recent years, allows fans a chance to become better engaged in the excitement of the game experience.

Sunday night’s game against the Cavaliers is also the Maroon Effect game this season. Fans are encouraged to wear maroon when attending the contest, or purchase the official Maroon Out shirt at the University Bookstore or the Cassell concourse. The game has already been announced as the team’s fourth sell out of the season.

A limited number of tickets remain for the Hokies’ three remaining ACC games, following the Virginia game. To purchase tickets to the remainder of Hokie home games, please call or visit the Athletics Ticket Office at 1-800-VATECH4 or go online to hokietickets.com.
