CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia Tech lost at No. 9/11 Virginia, 71-48, in ACC men’s basketball action on Wednesday night in John Paul Jones Arena. Tech drops to 16-6 overall and 5-5 in conference play, while the Cavaliers improve to 17-4 overall and 7-2 in ACC action.
Virginia jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first three and a half minutes of action. Tech cut the lead to five points twice in the first half, but the Cavaliers took a 35-21 lead into the intermission. Tech sliced the lead to 11 points with 8:44 remaining on a lay-up by Seth Allen, but could get no closer and Virginia earned the 71-48 victory.
Allen led the Hokies with 14 points. Zach LeDay added 12 points and six rebounds off the bench. Devon Hall led three Cavaliers in double figures with 17 points.
The two teams will meet again in Blacksburg on Sunday, Feb. 12, in a nationally-televised game at 6:30 p.m. on ESPNU. Tech has the upcoming weekend off, before returning to action next Wednesday, as they travel to Coral Gables to take on Miami. The game will tip off at 9 p.m. and will be shown on regional sports networks.
