Hokies earn road win at Clemson, 82-81

CLEMSON, S.C. – Virginia Tech earned a hard-fought ACC road victory at Clemson, 82-81, in Littlejohn Coliseum on Sunday night. With the win, Tech improves to 15-4 overall and 4-3 in ACC action, while Clemson falls to 11-8 overall and 1-6 in league play.
The game was close throughout. Tech led by as many as eight points in the first half and took a 41-40 lead into intermission. In the second half, the game seesawed back and forth. The Hokies took the lead for good on a steal and a dunk by Ahmed Hill with 9:01 remaining.
The Tigers cut it to a one-point game with 4:42 remaining, but Tech was able to keep the lead. The Hokies were 16-of-17 from the line in the game, including 9-of-9 in the second half. Tech made 6-of-6 free throw attempts in the final 21 seconds to preserve the win.
Seth Allen made several big plays down the stretch in the win, including a steal with 1:30 remaining and three-pointer to put the Hokies up five points with 31 seconds to go. Allen led the Hokies with 17 points and six rebounds, while committing just one turnover in 37 minutes of play. Zach LeDay added 16 points and Ahmed Hill had 11 points in the win. Jaron Blossomgame and Avry Holmes had 20 points each to lead the Tigers.
The Hokies won the battle of the boards, out rebounding the taller Tigers, 32-29. Tech shot 54.1 percent from the field and 94.1 percent from the line. The 94.1 percent is the second highest of the season and the third time this season that Tech has shot at least 90 percent from the line in a game.
Tech continues the road swing on Thursday night, as they travel to Chapel Hill on Thursday night to face the Tar Heels. The game will be shown on ESPN and will tip-off at 8 p.m.
