THE HOKIES (10-1)
The Hokies enter the game 10-1 on the season. Tech defeated Charleston Southern, 87-59, in Cassell Coliseum last Tuesday night. Chris Clarke recorded a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Ahmed Hill scored 20 points, leading five Hokies in double figures. Zach LeDay leads the Hokies in scoring at 16.7 points per game.
THE RETRIEVERS (9-3)
UMBC enters the game 9-3 on the season. The Retrievers won at James Madison, 62-61, on Friday. Jairus Lyles leads the Retrievers, averaging 22.1 points per game and Joe Sherburne averages 15.2 points per game. UMBC is coached by former Virginia Tech assistant coach Ryan Odom, in his first season with the Retrievers.
THE SERIES
This is the second meeting between the two schools. The Hokies won the previous meeting, 71-34, in Cassell Coliseum on Dec. 22, 2009. Tech is 5-0 all-time against schools currently in the America East Conference, including the season-opening 80-67 win over Maine.
