Hokies earn 73-70 come-from-behind win at Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Virginia Tech fought back from a 15-point, first half deficit to record a 73-70 win over Michigan on Wednesday night at Crisler Arena in Ann Arbor, Michigan in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. With the win, the Hokies improve to 6-1 overall, while Michigan falls to 5-2 on the season.

Michigan jumped out to early lead, stretching it to 15 points at 23-8 with 11:08 remaining in the first half. The Hokies cut the Wolverine lead to 39-30 on a lay-up by Justin Robinson in the final second of the period.

Tech cut into the lead early in the second half, but trailed 60-50 with 8:13 remaining in the game. The Hokies took the lead, 68-67, with 1:46 remaining on a field goal by Seth Allen. A three-pointer by Allen with 1:02 remaining put the Hokies up 71- 68 and after Michigan cut it to 71-70, Justin Bibbs hit two free throws to give Tech the final three-point margin. Michigan missed a shot at the buzzer and Tech emerged victorious.

Zach LeDay led the Hokies with 18 points and six rebounds, Robinson added 11 points and four assists and Bibbs and Allen added 10 points each. Zak Irvin scored 23 points to lead the Wolverines.

Tech shot 52.2 percent from the field, including 42.9 percent from three-point range. The Hokies out rebounded the Wolverines, 28-26 and made 19 of 21 free throw attempts, for 90.5 percent.

This was the final game of a four-game road trip, which saw the Hokies go 3-1 overall. The Hokies return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 7, against Maryland-Eastern Shore in Cassell Coliseum at 8:30 p.m.
