THE HOKIES (1-0)
The Hokies opened the 2016-17 season with an 80-67 win over Maine on Friday night in Cassell Coliseum. Four Hokies scored in double figures, led by Zach LeDay’s 20 point, 12 rebound double-double. Ahmed Hill added 14 points, Justin Robinson had 13 points and Chris Clarke scored 12 points in the win.
THE PANTHERS (1-0)
High Point opened the season on Saturday with a 74-41 victory over Division III Averett in High Point. Anthony Lindauer led the Panthers with 16 points and Miles Bowman Jr., added a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds..
THE SERIES
The all-time series between the Hokies and the Panthers is tied at 1-1. Tech won the last meeting, 84-75, in double overtime in Cassell Coliseum on Dec. 30, 2000. The first meeting between the two schools was a 84-75 HPU victory in 1952. Tech is 44-6 all-time against teams currently in the Big South Conference. This is the first of two games against Big South opponents this season for the Hokies.
