CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Virginia Tech men’s basketball team was selected 10th in the ACC preseason media vote, released Wednesday afternoon at ACC Operation Basketball in Charlotte.
The Hokies received 645 points in the poll. Duke is the preseason favorite, garnering 1359 points and 85 of 91 first place votes. North Carolina was selected second with 1239 points and the remaining six first class votes. Virginia is third at 1125, Syracuse is fifth at 905, NC State is sixth at 772, Notre Dame is seventh at 716, Florida State is eighth at 705 and Miami is ninth at 650, five points ahead of the Hokies and 27 points ahead of 11th place Clemson. Pitt, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech and Boston College round out the poll.
The Blue Devils, who return junior All-America guard Grayson Allen and senior starting guard Matt Jones from last year’s team that finished 25-11 and earned the program’s 21st consecutive NCAA Tournament berth, received 85 of 91 first-place votes in the preseason poll released Wednesday.
The league also released the poll for preseason All-ACC first and second team and preseason Player and Rookie of the year.
