Hokies to face New Mexico to open Wooden Legacy
Tech among field of eight at elite event
BLACKSBURG - The matchups for the DIRECTV Wooden Legacy, owned and operated by ESPN Events, have been released. The three-day, 12-game bracket tournament will be played November 24, 25 and 27 at two sites in Southern California during Thanksgiving weekend.

The Hokies will open the weekend against New Mexico, the first time the programs will face each other since the 1973 NIT tournament. Tech is 2-0 against the Lobos, winning the first matchup during the 1940-41 season and taking down New Mexico en route to the program's first NIT championship in 1973.

The DIRECTV Wooden Legacy will be played November 24 and 25 at Titan Gym on the campus of Cal State Fullerton, with the final four games being held at Honda Center on November 27. The 10th annual event, hosted by the Big West Conference, will see CSUN, Dayton, Nebraska, New Mexico, Portland, Texas A&M, UCLA and Virginia Tech as participants.

Both Dayton and Texas A&M participated in the 2016 NCAA Championship with the Aggies advancing to the Sweet 16. CSUN, New Mexico, Portland, Texas A&M, UCLA and Virginia Tech will be participating in the DIRECTV Wooden Legacy for the second-time. Dayton is coached by Archie Miller, the brother of the Arizona head coach Sean Miller who led the Wildcats to a third-place finish in the 2015 DIRECTV Wooden Legacy.

All 12 games of the 2016 DIRECTV Wooden Legacy will be televised across ESPN Networks (ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU and ESPN3). Fullerton/Anaheim is in the Pacific Time zone (three hours behind ET, two hours behind CT and one hour behind of MT). All times listed are Pacific (other time zones). Please note that the championship game will be played as the third of four games on November 27.
