Tech, Tigers meet for the first time
Virginia Tech vs. Princeton Game Notes

Virginia Tech hosts Princeton in the first round of the 2016 National Invitation Tournament on Wednesday night in Cassell Coliseum. The game, scheduled for an 8 p.m. tip-off will be televised live by ESPNU.

About Tonight’s Game

The Hokies enter the NIT 19-14 overall and was 10-8 in ACC action … The Hokies are the third seed in the St. Bonaventure Bracket and will play the bracket’s sixth seed, Princeton ... The Tigers are 22-6 overall and were 12-2 in the Ivy League ... The winner of tonight’s game will play the winner of the BYU - UAB game.

Last Time Out: #11 Miami 88, VT 82

The Hokies lost to No. 11/11 Miami, 88-82, in the quarterfinal of the 2016 ACC Tournament on Thursday night ... Seth Allen scored 31 points to lead the Hokies, while Justin Robinson and Zach LeDay added 12 points each.

The Hokies and the NIT

This is the Hokies’ 13th trip to the NIT ... Tech won the NIT championship in 1973 and in 1995 and finished third in the 1984 tournament ... The Hokies are 24-10 all-time in the NIT and 15-4 in home games ... The first-ever NIT game not played in Madison Square Garden was played in Cassell Coliseum, an 83-79 victory over Georgetown in 1977 ... This is the Hokies’ sixth NIT appearance since joining the ACC ... Tech has played its last 10 NIT games in Cassell Coliseum, most recently a 79-54 victory over Bethune-Cookman and a 79-76 overtime loss to Wichita State in the 2011 NIT.

The Series Against the Tigers

This is the first-ever meeting between Tech and Princeton ... The Hokies are 3-1 all-time against members of the Ivy League, none coming in the NIT and just two of the four games having been played in Cassell Coliseum ... Tech is 2-0 at home against the Ivy League.

Seth is Honored...

Seth Allen was named second team All-ACC Tournament by the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association ... The redshirt junior averaged 25.5 points per game in the Hokies’ two games ... His 31 points in the loss to No. 11 Miami is the second-highest point total by a Tech player in a single ACC Tournament game.

...Zach Too

Zach LeDay was named honorable mention All-ACC for the 2015-16 season by the ACC coaches and the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association ... The redshirt junior is averaging 15.1 points and 7.8 rebounds per game in his first season with the Hokies.

Hokies vs. NIT Field

The Hokies have played three teams in this year’s NIT and have a perfect 4-0 record against the field ... Tech defeated UAB in Destin, 82-77, in overtime and defeated fellow ACC members Florida State twice and Georgia Tech in the only meeting ... Tech is 3-10 against this year’s NCAA field.
