Virginia Tech vs. Florida State Game Notes

Virginia Tech returns to Cassell Coliseum for the first time in two weeks to face Florida State. The game, scheduled to tip-off at 3 p.m., will be televised live by The ACC Network. The contest, the school's Blackout! game, is part of the 31st Annual Hokie Celebration.

About Today’s Game

The Hokies enter today’s game 13-13 overall and 5-8 in ACC action … Florida State is 16-10 on the season and 6-8 in league play ... The game is sold out.

Last Time Out: #11 Miami 65, VT 49

The Hokies lost at No. 11/10 Miami, 65-49, on Wednesday night … Justin Robinson again led the Hokies in scoring, with 12 points, to go along with three assists and a career-high four steals ... Tech out rebounded the Hurricanes, but managed just 29.6 percent from the floor.

Series Against the Seminoles

The Seminoles lead the all-time series, 30-20 … FSU has won the last three meetings, most recently a 73-65 victory in Cassell Coliseum last season … FSU swept both games last season … Tech is 13-9 in home games in the series, all being played in Cassell Coliseum … Tech is 5-11 in games played since the Hokies joined the ACC and 4-11 in ACC regular season games.

Cassell Heating Up in February

The Hokies and Seminoles face-off today in a sold-out Cassell Coliseum ... The last home game, a win over Clemson, was also a sellout ... Today marks Tech’s fourth sellout of the season ... This is the first time the Hokies have had four sellouts in a season since the 2011-12 season ... The Clemson game was the first February sellout against a team other than Virginia, Duke or North Carolina since Feb. 18, 2012, a sellout against Georgia Tech ... Tech sold out Cassell Coliseum later that season on March 4 against NC State.

Honoring Academic Achievement

During today’s game, the Virginia Tech Athletics Department is recognizing student-athletes who earned a 3.0 or higher GPA during the fall semester ... More than 270 student-athletes earned a 3.0 or greater, with 167 making the Dean’s List, and 19 student-athletes earning a 4.0 during the fall semester ... in total, 15 teams achieved a 3.0 or greater fall semester GPA ... Due to scheduling conflicts, not all honorees are able to attend today’s game ... Also during today's game, Virginia Tech will recognize its three ACC Post-Graduate Scholarship honorees ... Ashley Meier (women's soccer), Kylie McGoldrick (softball) and Carol Kahoun (women's tennis) each were named 2016 Weaver-James-Corrigan Award recipients ... This is awarded to selected student-athletes who intend to pursue a graduate degree following completion of their undergraduate requirements ... Each recipient will receive $5,000 toward his or her graduate education ... Those honored have performed with distinction in both the classroom and their respective sport, while demonstrating exemplary conduct in the community ... These are three of 43 student-athletes in the ACC to receive the award.
