Hokies fall at Miami, 65-49

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Virginia Tech dropped a 65-49 decision at No. 11/10 Miami in ACC men’s basketball action Wednesday night at the BankUnited Center. With the loss, the Hokies fall to 13-13 overall and 5-8 in conference play, while the Hurricanes improve to 21-4 overall and 10-3 in ACC action.

The Hokies led through most of the first half and took a 22-21 lead into the intermission. Miami came out of the locker room and started the second half on a 14-2 run and never trailed after the first few seconds of the second half.

Justin Robinson led the Hokies with 12 points, to go along with three assists and a career-high four steals. Angel Rodriguez led four Hurricanes in double figures with 14 points.

The Hokies out rebounded the Hurricanes, 33-32, but could manage just 29.6 percent shooting from the field. Tech made 11-of-14 from the line. Miami scored 34 of its 65 points in the paint, but Tech limited them to just six transition points.

Tech returns to action on Saturday, as they host Florida State at 3 p.m. in Cassell Coliseum. The contest is the Hokies “Blackout” game, where fans are encouraged to wear black clothing. A limited number of tickets are available for the Florida State game, which is also “Hokie Celebration” day.
