CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia Tech’s Chris Clarke made his return to the Hokies’ lineup, but he wasn’t enough to help the cold-shooting Hokies beat rival Virginia, as Tech fell 67-49 to the No. 7 Cavaliers in an ACC game played Tuesday night at John Paul Jones Arena.
Tech, which had upset then-No. 4 Virginia at Virginia Tech Carilion Court on Jan. 5, fell to 13-12 overall, 5-7 in ACC action. The Cavaliers moved to 20-4 overall, 9-3 in the ACC.
The Hokies never got untracked in this one, scoring just 20 points in the first half and trailing by as many as 18 before cutting the UVA lead to 32-20 at halftime. They trailed by as many as 22 in the second half on an evening in which they shot just 35.6 percent and turned the ball over 15 times.
Justin Robinson paced Tech with 16 points. The freshman hit 4 of 5 from the floor, including a couple of 3-pointers, and 6 of 7 from the free-throw line.
Clarke had missed the previous 12 games after breaking a bone in his foot over the Christmas break – an injury that required surgery. He was averaging 10.5 points and 7.4 rebounds per game at the time of his injury.
Clark scored 11 points, hitting 4 of 7 from the floor and 3 of 4 from the free-throw line. He also grabbed four rebounds and had two steals.
Virginia shot 49 percent from the floor. Anthony Gill led the Cavaliers with 16 points and Isaiah Wilkins added a career-high 14.

The Hokies now take eight days off before resuming conference play. They travel to Coral Gables, Florida, to take on Miami on Feb. 17. Tipoff is slated for 9 p.m.
