The Hokies dropped another heart-breaker, this time at home on Sunday to No. 2 North Carolina … Tech fought back from a 20-point first half deficit to take a second half lead … UNC held off Tech in the final minutes for the 75-70 decision … Zach LeDay led the Hokies with 17 points … The Hokies outshot the Tar Heels in all three major categories, but were out rebounded, 48-33.
Series Against The Cardinals
The renewal of one of Tech’s best-known rivalries … The Cardinals hold a 29-8 lead in the all-time series, which dates back less than 40 years … Louisville has won the last 10 meetings, including a 78-63 win in the KFC YUM! Center last season in the only meeting since Louisville joined the ACC … Tech is 3-13 against Louisville in home games, all being played in Cassell Coliseum … Along with Blacksburg and Louisville, this series has also been played in Memphis, Tennessee and Biloxi, Mississippi … The last two times Tech has played the 16th-ranked team in the country, the opponent was Louisville.

Tonight’s game will be Louisville’s first trip into Cassell Coliseum as a member of the ACC, but by no means its first trip to the arena ... This is Louisville’s first trip to Cassell Coliseum since Jan. 12, 1995 ... From 1978 until 1995, the two teams met 36 times as members of the Metro Conference, where both schools experienced great success ... Sixteen of those meetings came in Cassell Coliseum.

The Virginia Tech basketball staff are wearing suits and sneakers to help raise awareness for cancer research, in this event presented by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) ... Coaches vs. Cancer Suits And Sneakers Week is a nationwide event when basketball coaches across the county unite for a common cause saving lives from cancer! ... Coaches and their staff wear sneakers with their suits while coaching games to raise awareness, share the importance of nutrition and physical activity, and to promote the American Cancer Society as a place for people facing cancer to turn to for free information, help, and support 24 hours a day, seven days a week ... Hundreds of local and national basketball game broadcasts will help focus on the American Cancer Society’s lifesaving mission and how everyone can fight back against cancer ... It’s as simple as lacing up your sneakers.

Along with “Suits & Sneakers” night, the Hokies are wearing special black uniforms with pink trim to further draw attention to the fight against cancer ... The players will also compete in distinctive NIKE shoes, specially-designed in bright pink to highlight this very important cause.
