Virginia Tech and Virginia square off on Monday night at Cassell Coliseum. The game, part of the Commonwealth Clash, tips and 9 p.m. and will be televised by ESPN2.

About Tonight’s Game

The Hokies enter tonight’s game 9-5 overall and 1-0 in ACC action … Virginia is 12-1 on the season and 1-0 in league play … The Cavaliers were ranked fifth in both polls last week.

Last Time Out: VT 73, NCSU 68 OT

The Hokies opened ACC play with a big come-from-behind victory over NC State, 73-68, in Cassell Coliseum on Saturday afternoon. Tech trailed by as many as 16 points in the game and trailed by 10 points with 10:31 remaining in regulation, but rallied to send the game into overtime on a three-pointer by Seth Allen in the final seconds of regulation ... Tech then got big baskets from Kerry Blackshear Jr., and Jalen Hudson in overtime for the 73-68 victory ... Allen and Hudson scored 23 points each and Zach LeDay had nine points and 12 rebounds in the win.

Series Against The Cavaliers

This is the 142nd meeting all-time between the two in-state rivals, in a series that dates back to 1915 … This is the most-played rivalry for the Hokies ... UVa leads the all-time series, 88-53 … UVa has won the last seven meetings, most recently a 69-57 win in Charlottesville last season … Tech is 27-21 in home games in the series and 14-7 in games played in Cassell Coliseum … This series has been played not only in Blacksburg and Charlottesville, but also in Richmond, Lynchburg, Roanoke, Salem, Hampton, Norfolk and Greensboro, North Carolina in the 2006 ACC Tournament.

Jalen Hudson scored 23 points in the win over NC State ... That is a season high for Hudson and third time in his Virginia Tech career he has scored 20-or-more points in a game ... All three have come against ACC competition ... Seth Allen scored 23 points for the Hokies ... This is his third, 20-plus point game of the season.

All the Way Back

In the win over NC State, the Hokies rallied from a 16-point deficit ... That is the largest comeback of the season and the first time the Hokies have rallied from a double-digit deficit since coming back from a 10-point deficit to Georgia Tech last season ... The last time the Hokies overcame more than a 16-point deficit was a17-point comeback over West Virginia on Nov. 12, 2013.
